Walid Raad at Walker Art Center - Thursday Oct. 25

Looks really interesting:

"Join artist Walid Raad for a performative lecture on his writing and visual art, which grapples with the representation of traumatic events of collective historical dimensions and the ways that film, video, and photography function as documents of physical and psychological violence. His recent work includes The Atlas Group (1989–2004), a project composed of audio, visual, and literary elements dealing with the contemporary history of Lebanon, particularly the Lebanese wars from 1975 to 1991. Raad teaches at Cooper Union in New York, and his pieces have been shown at documenta 11 in Kassel, Germany, the Venice Biennale, and the Whitney Biennial, among many others. Copresented by Mizna."

KIOSK at Midway Center for Contemporary Arts

Fantastic Show currently at the exceptional Midway Center for Contemporary Arts on the border of North and South East Minneapolis (east Hennepin at 5th Street). Highly recommended - be prepared to spend a couple hours if you love art, design and/or magazines.

"KIOSK: Modes of Multiplication is a nomadic exhibition of artist books, catalogs, periodicals, video and audio projects that has been continually growing as it has traveled over the past seven years. It currently comprises approximately 6,000 titles from roughly 400 independent publishers from around the world. The project provides a rich overview of activities within the rapidly expanding field of independent publishing activities from the past ten years. Consequently, it offers a broad perspective on the various models of dissemination and distribution of artistic ways of working in printed media and an idea of the diverse strategies, motivations and programs of the participating publishers’ projects."

AIR @ First Avenue

A I R @ FIRST AVENUE ON MAY 2ND!
The electro-pop duo from France comes back to Minneapolis. Their new album "Pocket Symphony" is their fourth studio album. This show you won't wanna miss...

Show Review
Air stands almost by itself on the forefront of the downtempo-electronica-pop world. Their live sound was without a doubt better than any studio recording they've ever put together. A complete surprise for those of us expecting two French guys and a lot of boxes and got a full band along with Moog synthesizers, a Wurlitzer, Vocoder effects, mixing organic sound with the digital.
A wonderful preamble to a summer full of great music shows in the Twin Cities.

Holy Sh*t! Konono #1 straight out of Kinshasha, Congo - blew the roof off of the Cedar Cultural Center last night. Amazing show. The fired things up at 7.30 and played non-stop for an hour and 45 minutes. Literally non-stop. Closest thing to high energy trance live - with only drums, a couple cow bells and these funky little thumb harps - phenomenal!

An almost sold-out crowd enjoyed the sounds representing two continents portrayed by a bunch of crazy New Yorkers! They played songs from al their records as well as an amazing cover of Hector Lavoe's "Che Che Cole" ending their encore with "Indictment" a fiery anti-establishment song for the masses.
